About John Salmon Cannock Ltd

John Salmon Cannock Ltd – History

The current business was first formed in 1886 as a grocery shop and delicatessen which turned into John Salmon Cannock Ltd, a limited company in 1957 and continued trading straight through to the 1970’s when upon the retirement of our Grand parents the business was passed on and changed direction to be dealers in antiques, the family shop also became one of several retail premises being operated at the time. Over time the business evolved and moved  away from the costly retail setup and more towards export and fine arts fairs which is how we operate today.

The family has been involved with furniture now for over 150 years starting with our Great, Great Uncle who was a furniture maker and restorer with premises in central London. He was then followed by our Great grandfather John Salmon who when he returned from the first world war dealt in small antiques such as music boxes and rare books. His interest was then passed on to our Father and Uncle John and Eric Salmon who started buying and selling furniture in the early 1960’s, and then finally myself joining the business straight out of school in the early 1980’s.
